Aotearoa Film & TV Awards 2011

Posted on June 30, 2011 by Mike Riddell

With major sponsor Qantas having more things to worry about than Kiwi film and television, they’ve pulled out of the former Qantas Film & TV awards. This has had the beneficial effect of getting them renamed the Aotearoa Film & TV Awards, with the inaugural ceremony in November 2011.

Naturally, The Insatiable Moon will be entering. The major problem is that it costs $300 per entry!!! We’d like to enter for them all, but that would be $4500!

Here’s a list of the film categories – which ones do you think we should enter?

Best Feature Film
Outstanding Feature Film Debut
Best Director in a Feature Film
Best Lead Actor in a Feature Film
Best Lead Actress in a Feature Film
Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film
Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film
Best Screenplay for a Feature Film
Best Cinematography in a Feature Film*
Best Editing in a Feature Film*
Best Original Music in a Feature Film*
Best Sound in a Feature Film*
Best Production Design in a Feature Film*
Best Costume Design in a Feature Film*
Best Make-Up Design in a Feature Film*
Best Visual Effects in a Feature Film*

Outstanding Debut; Best Director; Best lead actor; Best supporting actor (Ian Mune) – and I’m not sufficiently familiar with the techniques of film-making to comment on editing, sound etc…you choose.

If you don’t do the honorable thing & rob a bank to the tune of $4,500, then my top vote goes for Outstanding Feature Film Debut!

Ah, bank robbery sounds appealing – if only I were a futures broker…
