The mother of all moons…

Posted on March 17, 2011 by Mike Riddell

Saturday 19th March will welcome the rising of a perigee moon. In scientific terms that means it will be the closes to the earth that it comes. But in mystical, romantic and spiritual terms, it means that there will be a fantastically huge full moon hovering on the horizon. Take the time to watch her rise, and experience the magic.

Of course it means that the lunar sway will be stronger as well – lifting seas, disturbing sleep, and hauling in our dreams with that majestic invisible net. Even rationalists are not immune to gravity and tides.

Of all moons, this one will be insatiable. And in an age when wonder is in short supply, we hope that it will be a portent of the rising of the Moon – our little film that continues to defy the odds on its journey around the globe. Back in 2003 when we committed ourselves to the making of the movie, there was a fulsome moon looming on the London horizon. May it shine on.

Sister moon, brother sun… the companions to our small lives on the face of the planet. May we regard them with respect and wonder.
