Moon Wisdom: Hurry
Arthur says:
“All in a hurry to get where they don’t want to be”
Arthur has time to stop and look. He tries to get people to see what he sees – a world gone mad. Arthur is disturbed by the busyness of people – their constant rushing from one thing to a next; the seeming panic that there’s not enough time in the day; the anger and impatience that comes from people under too much pressure. And not only that, but the hurry is leading people to places they didn’t really want to be in the first place. No wonder he’s regarded as mad!
All of us fall into the trap of cutting corners. We want a lot of things, and we want them now. In order to get them we’re forced to make compromises. So we sacrifice sleep, time for reflection, relationships, diet, exercise and relaxation. The people in our lives become a means to an end, as we’re hell-bent on making our mark on the world. Rushing through life like it’s an unpleasant task to be completed.
And then before we know it, it’s gone. And maybe the only ‘mark’ we’ve made ends up as a handful of words on a tombstone.
Most people have the experience of waking up and wondering how they got where they are. How did you get to be this sort of person? Why did you end up in this sort of relationship or this sort of job? What happened to the quiet dreams of youth? What became of the person you once were?
Arthur helps us to ask the question of whether our rush and hustle is taking to somewhere we really want to be. Is this who we set out to be? Did we make a choice? Or did we just get caught up in the traffic, amongst other people who seemed to know where they were going? It’s worth a few moments of quiet reflection – if we can make the time.
