Less than 24 hours to go now until we discover the five nominees in the documentary category for the Academy Awards. And all of us here at The Insatiable Moon are hanging out for This Way of Life to be in that list, with the film already having made it to the shortlist of 15. We declare our interest – it’s a New Zealand doco, it’s directed by our DOP Thomas Burstyn, and it’s made using the same Frugal Filmmaking philosophy as Moon. But this has been recognised internationally as a riveting and powerful piece of cinema that has entranced audiences wherever it has travelled.

Here’s hoping for this beautiful film to be recognised for the major accomplishment it is, and that Tom and Sumner Burstyn will be there at the ceremony to receive due acknowledgement. A year ago when they were debating whether or not to enter it seemed an impossible dream. And yet here they are on the cusp of nomination for the most prestigious awards ceremony in the world.

For New Zealanders wanting to get the news, it will be released at 2.30am Weds 26th January local time, here. In the meantime, break a leg!
