Total Eclipse of the Moon
Today, 21st December, there will be a total lunar eclipse. Here in NZ, the moon will rise over the horizon somewhere between 8.36pm and 9.00pm, depending on where you are in the country.
It is a lovely and portentous event, and a chance to be caught up in the mystery and beauty of the world. And for followers of the film, the wonder of the insatiable moon being overshadowed in the season of advent.
Of course the moon does not disappear. It abides, and the magnetic pull remains. It only means that for a period of time, it fades a little because of the greater light of the sun being shadowed by the earth.
It seems that this has been our experience often in the journey of this film – shadows creeping across our hopes, so that we began to doubt the authenticity of them. But always the shadow passes, and with it our doubts about our stubborn belief that it is a film for our times.
We have come to the end of our cinematic release in NZ – a fabulous 10 weeks. And now the light of Arthur will dim for a season, until the rising of the film in London on 4 March 2011.
Thank you to all our supporters for a marvellous year!
