A small story
Thanks to our many supporters for expressions of encouragement since the news we didn’t make the cut for Toronto. Even better than getting into festivals or winning awards is the grassroots support from people who have seen the film and believe it’s something special.
This film has always been one that’s up against the odds. For whatever reason, it’s been put together on a wing and a prayer, and flown a remarkable path under the radar in order to even make it to the screen. Without the persistent faith and generosity of a huge number of people, it would never have even made it to the screen. Time and again, it seemed that there was no way through, and yet somehow we found a path forward.
Perhaps that is the way we are meant to travel. Maybe it’s not just the story itself which is about the little people in life, but the journey of the film is that of a small project on the margins, unsupported and unloved by the powers that be. Our hope is in the people who see the film and are moved by it to think of their own lives and those of others in a different way. If this film is to spread around the world, it will be because of audiences who love it and are prepared to spread the word to their friends.
Interestingly our distributors in New Zealand have picked up a throwaway comment I made on the blog a while back, and made it into the strapline for the film. It’s become an aspiration as much as a summary – “A small story that might just change the world.”
