Poster Quiz

Posted on June 23, 2010 by Mike Riddell

Just for interest sake, I thought we might trawl for a bit of reaction on posters. Always difficult choosing the right image to promote a film. This is more for the theatrical release of the film later in the year through Rialto.

We’d welcome comments below about the above two concepts – both of them in draft. Not just which you like, but what you like or don’t like. And if you can include your gender and age bracket, so much the better.

Sorry, no prizes! We’re just genuinely interested in your opinions. If you want to write a longer appraisal, email here.

Thanks for your help!

The second one with Arthur’s back to the audience and the moon and the AKLD skyline is awesome and by far the best. The top one ain’t so compelling for me, I’m afraid.

The top poster looks too light and “syrupy” but the layout of the words is balanced and clear. Maybe have it with a night setting and the moon instead of the sky tower. The lower poster is better with the moon and the darkness – gives a sense of mystery and magic. Could the moon be full (more like the earlier poster being slightly obstructed by cloud) and at the top.. switched with Rawiri? Looks like he has a moon in his back. Not sure of the balance of this poster although the title does stand out.

    Hello!
I like the very top poster – at the top of the page. I like the moon in the sky. It gives it more mystery.
I think that the one with Arthur and Margaret, is a little cheesy/americanised.

I like the bottom one – the darker one. It looks a million times more interesting than the top one which looks rather wishy washy and like it could be a dull run of the mill relationshippy film. The bottom one looks intense, rich, and intriguing. Like there’s a really good story coming up.

The lower one, of course. The space used by Rawiri’s name could be better used for a tag line.

Actually, I still like the bottom one – darker, evocative of mystery etc. The top one feels a little “light” and “cliched” – I think that does the story and some of its central themes something of a disservice….

THe top one puts me in mind of ‘GOne with the Wind’. The general feeling in our place is that the lower one has dynamism and would attract more interest. Although there is something odd re the positioning of the moon but I’m not sure where else it could go

Definitely the second of the two posters. The first one is completely forgettable, run-of-the-mill, I’ve-seen-it-a thousand-times-before, Mills-and Boonish: all cliches, but so is it. The second one, being dark (and with the main character’s back to the camera) focuses on the title ‘The Insatiable Moon’ – such a great title! It is evocative and seems to have a haunting atmosphere – a hint that there is more to this film than meets the eye. Something that will make audiences ponder.
